Walker Institute contribution to the Stern Review

The Stern Review into the "Economics of Climate Change" was published on Monday 30 October. Walker Institute scientists have made significant contributions to the Review.

 

Climate risk and insurance

The Walker Institute is a key player in the Willis Research Network – the largest existing collaboration between the insurance industry and academia.


 

Walker scientists invited to Buckingham Palace

On 24 October Prof. Julia Slingo and Dr. Andrew Challinor attended a reception at Buckingham Palace given by the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh for representatives of the British Scientific Community.


 

The Founding Director of the Walker Institute appointed to the Joint Scientific Committee

Prof. Julia Slingo has been appointed to the Joint Scientific Committee (JSC) of the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP). The JSC is the main governing body of the WCRP. It consists of 18 scientists representing climate-related disciplines in atmospheric, oceanic, hydrological and cryospheric sciences, who are selected by mutual agreement between the three sponsoring organizations, the International Council for Science (ICSU), the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO.


 

Walker PhD student advises Parliament on climate change

Miss Jane Strachan, a PhD student in NCAS-Climate at Reading, has completed a 3 month NERC placement at the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST).
