UK/India collaboration on the Indian monsoon

 
 

Walker Institute research featured in event to highlight UK/India collaboration on climate change.

The event, organised by the British Council UK India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI), took place on the 21st November 2007 in New Delhi.

Sir David King, the UK Government's chief scientific advisor said at the event: "This is an extremely important event as international cooperation in the area of climate change is critical. Through the UK India Education and Research Initiative we have established a step wise increase in the process of collaboration. We already have 6 major projects and 60 small scale projects underway... "

 

 

 

Forecasting the Indian monsoon

Prof Julia Slingo, with scientists from the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, is leading one of only 6 major projects funded under the UK India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI) in 2007.

The project aims to combine UK and Indian expertise to significantly accelerate the development of skilfull Indian monsoon forecasts.

Prof Julia Slingo directs the Climate Programme of the National Centre for Atmospheric Science (NCAS-Climate).

Dr Tim Wheeler, Dr Andy Turner and Mr Nick Klingaman all presented their work at the event in New Delhi.
